1946.
Ø Objective: To provide for the proper
conservation of whale stocks and thus make possible the orderly development of
the whaling industry.
Ø HQ: Impington, near Cambridge, England.
Lithium-ion Giga Factories :
Ø NITI Aayog has
proposed the establishment of giga factories in India for the
manufacture of lithium-ion batteries in the next couple of years.
Ø Arguments for Lithium-Ion Giga
Factories: The lack of domestic capability will result
in massive imports from China for its electric vehicles as is the case in
electronics.
Ø A lithium-ion battery or Li-ion
battery (abbreviated as LIB) is a type of rechargeable battery.
Ø
Components:
o
Li-ion batteries use an intercalated lithium compound as one
electrode material, compared. to the metallic lithium used in a
non-rechargeable lithium battery.
o The electrolyte, which allows for
ionic movement, and the two electrodes are the constituent components of a lithium-ion battery cell.
Working on a warmer planet :
Ø According to a recent report by the International Labour Organization
(ILO), India could lose the equivalent of 34 million jobs in 2030
due to global warming.
Ø Name of the report: Working on a Warmer Planet - The
Impact of Heat Stress on Labour Productivity and Decent Work.
Ø
Released by: The International Labour
Organization.
Key Highlights of the Report:
Ø India will be the most affected
country. because of its large population.
Ø India is projected to lose 5.8 per
cent of working hours in 2030 due to global warming, particularly impacting
agriculture and construction sectors.
