Whaling :
Ø Japanese whalers brought back two minke whales to the northern Japanese port of Kushiro, their first catch after resuming commercial whaling for the first time in 31 years.
Ø History: International Whaling Commission (IWC) was set up under the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling (ICRW) which was signed in Washington DC in 1946. 
Ø Objective: To provide for the proper conservation of whale stocks and thus make possible the orderly development of the whaling industry. 
Ø HQ: Impington, near Cambridge, England. 

Lithium-ion Giga Factories :
Ø NITI Aayog has proposed the establishment of giga factories in India for the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries in the next couple of years.
Ø Arguments for Lithium-Ion Giga Factories: The lack of domestic capability will result in massive imports from China for its electric vehicles as is the case in electronics.
Ø A lithium-ion battery or Li-ion battery (abbreviated as LIB) is a type of rechargeable battery.
Ø Components:
o   Li-ion batteries use an intercalated lithium compound as one electrode material, compared. to the metallic lithium used in a non-rechargeable lithium battery.
o   The electrolyte, which allows for ionic movement, and the two electrodes are the constituent components of a lithium-ion battery cell.

Working on a warmer planet :
Ø According to a recent report by the International Labour Organization (ILO), India could lose the equivalent of 34 million jobs in 2030 due to global warming.
Ø Name of the report: Working on a Warmer Planet - The Impact of Heat Stress on Labour Productivity and Decent Work. 
Ø Released by: The International Labour Organization

Key Highlights of the Report
Ø India will be the most affected country. because of its large population. 
Ø India is projected to lose 5.8 per cent of working hours in 2030 due to global warming, particularly impacting agriculture and construction sectors. 
Ø The report noted that Ahmedabad incorporated a cool roofs initiative into its 2017 Heat Action Plan, notably by providing access to affordable cool roofs for the city's slum residents and urban poor.

4th July- Current Affairs MSP of Kharif Crops : Ø The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all kharif crops for 2019-20 Season. Ø The MSP of paddy has been increased by 65 rupees per quintal, Jowar by 120 rupees, Ragi by 253 rupees, Tur by 125 rupees, Moong by 75 rupees, Urad pulses by 100 rupees, Soyabean by 311 rupees, sunflower by 262 rupees and sesamum by 236 rupees.
