Inner Line Permit (ILP) :
Ø A petition filed before the Supreme Court has sought a direction to the
Centre and the Nagaland government to take steps for the protection of
non-Nagas living in Dimapur following the imposition of the Inner
Line Permit (ILP).
Ø Inner Line Permit
(ILP) is an official travel document issued by the Government of India to allow
inward travel of an Indian citizen into a protected/restricted area for a
limited period.
Ø ILP system is
currently in operation in Mizoram, AP and Nagaland. Manipur had
the system of ILP but it was abolished in 1950.
Ø ILP: Any Domestic tourist coming to
the mentioned state has to obtain an ILP. It is granted as a routine for the
tourists and so it should not deter any tourist from coming to state.
International Olympic committee (IOC) :
Ø On Olympic Games' 125th anniversary, the International Olympic Committee
(IOC) formally opened its new headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The Olympic House has been built on the site of the former headquarters.
Ø Timeline: IOC was created on 23 June 1894. The
first Olympic Games of the modern era opened in Athens on 6 April 1896.
Ø Type: It is a not-for-profit independent international
organisation
Ø The
IOC is the supreme authority of the Olympic Movement and is responsible for
organising the modern Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
Ambubachi Mela :
Ø Where: Ambubachi Mela is held at Kamakhya
Temple in Guwahati, Assam.
Ø When: It is an annual Hindu mela celebrated
during the monsoon season that happens to fall during the Assamese month Ahaar,
around the middle of June.
Ø Occasion: It is the celebration of the yearly menstruation course of
goddess Kamakhya. It is believed that the presiding goddess of the temple, Devi
Kamakhya, the Mother Shakti, goes through her annual cycle of menstruation
during this time stretch.
Ø Other names: This mela is also known as Ameti or Tantric fertility
festival since it is closely associated with Tantric Shakti cult prevalent in
eastern parts of India.
Social
Significance:
Ø
The
ritualistic fair celebrating the goddess’ period is one of the reasons why the
taboo associated with menstruation is less in Assam compared to other parts of
India.
Ø
The
attainment of womanhood of girls in Assam is celebrated with a ritual called
‘Tuloni Biya’, meaning small wedding.
Bangkok Declaration :
Ø
Southeast Asian nations vowed to
fight against plastic pollution in the ocean, as their leaders adopted a joint
declaration during a summit in Bangkok.
Ø
The Bangkok
Declaration on Combating Marine Debris in ASEAN Region was adopted
by leaders of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN),
which includes four of the world’s top polluters.
Ø The 10 ASEAN countries vow to
“strengthen national laws and regulations as well as enhance regional and
international cooperation” to prevent and significantly reduce marine debris.
Ø Neither
the declaration nor its accompanying Framework of Action specifically mention
bans on single-use plastic or imports of foreign waste, as environmental groups
previously demanded ahead of the summit.
